In the southern suburb of Colombo, Dehiwela is home to one of the finest zoos in Asia. Officially known as the National Zoological Gardens, the 25 acre Colombo Zoo holds over 3000 animals from 350 species. This project is for animal lovers and people who don't mind hard work and getting their hands dirty.
Volunteers could gain an unforgettable experience with its diversity of fauna and flora that one can get the experience with the touch of the natural environment. Welcome to a Biological Paradise filled with entertainment, research and education as it gives the correct atmosphere and a great chance to learn all about the animals more closely even though they might not be in their natural habitats. Your presence at the zoo will make a real difference to the lives of some of these captive animals.
The nature of your work will vary according to what is required every day and also the Zoo’s needs in general during the period of time that you are there. Volunteers can assist in trying to uplift the quality of life of the animals by improving the enclosures and make an effective contribution to the animal’s welfare and have a positive influence on the conditions under which some of them live.
